Welcome to the Web Site

Welcome to MonteleoneSportsMed.Com. John C. Monteleone, M.D. has developed this web site to share his knowledge, expertise, and insights of Sports Medicine with his patients, colleagues, friends, and all interested and inquisitive viewers. He hopes that you will discover valuable information, share the site with others, return for updates and additions, and discuss questions and issues in the Discussion Forum section.

The site features several places of interest. First, Dr. Monteleone describes for you his Sports Medicine practice and expertise, his personal and professional philosophy of Sports Medicine, his credentials, experiences and specifics about his office.

In the section titled Services Provided, Dr. Monteleone informs you of the medical care that he provides athletes and people participating in sports.

Dr. Monteleone provides body composition testing to measure an athlete's body fat and lean body mass (LBM). Information about changes in body composition can directly feedback to the physical benefits of the athlete's training program. The common goal of such programs is to increase strength, endurance, and speed.

Dr. Monteleone measures bone mineral density (BMD) to determine whether such training programs are having a beneficial or a detrimental effect on bone status and health. Over-training, especially in female athletes who are at risk, can lead to loss of BMD (osteoporosis) and eventual stress fractures.

Dr. Monteleone evaluates both the physical and nutritional merits of the athlete's training program. Many potential athletes have weight loss as their primary goal initially. Dr. Monteleone advises and monitors such athletes on a regular basis. He emphasizes fat weight loss, while preserving LBM, i.e. bone, muscle, organ, and water weight, and maintaining or increasing basal metabolic rate (BMR).

Dr. Monteleone carefully evaluates and scrutinizes athletes who are having physical difficulties with their sports. He performs a biomechanical exam which identifies any musculoskeletal deficiences or inadequacies that an athlete might have. Dr. Monteleone provides information, education, equipment (such as foot orthotics), fitness instruction, and professional resources that can help the athlete correct and overcome such deficits.

The Sports Medicine Information section is where you can find medical articles and information on common problems and issues to many athletes in a variety of different sports.

Dr. Monteleone hopes that you will enjoy your tour and share your thoughts, ideas, and comments. Go to Contact Us to email Dr. Monteleone and his staff. Let us know if we can schedule an appointment for you to evaluate your sports medicine concerns.
